Azure Virtual Desk (AVD) Support Engineer (Remote, 6-months contract renewable)

Responsibilities

• Support and align academic and operational activities with client's Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environment.
• Maintain and support AVD resources to meet specific application and usage requirements.
• Manage AVD image administration and deployment processes.
• Oversee image lifecycle and workload management.
• Ensure consistency across platform governance, performance, storage capacity, availability, and operational requirements.
• Provide consultation, troubleshooting, and engineering support for AVD-related matters.
• Manage scaling policies and autoscaling configurations to optimise resource utilisation and control costs.
• Perform regular health checks and proactive maintenance on AVD components.
• Carry out operating system patching and coordinate software updates in accordance with client's approved procedures.
• Address and remediate security findings identified through Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing activities.
• Monitor and support Azure networking components associated with the AVD environment.

Required Skills

• Ability to troubleshoot issues relating to user profiles, access, roles, Conditional Access, profile corruption, and login.
• Diagnose connectivity issues affecting AVD users, session hosts, and dependent services.
• Resolve issues involving resource availability and provisioning.
• Troubleshoot application workload and functionality issues.
• Conduct performance analysis and tuning.
• Enhance or remediate platform agents and configurations.
• Troubleshoot host pools and the supporting infrastructure.
• Provide technical support and perform root cause analysis.
• Manage and coordinate escalations with third-party vendors on behalf of NYP.
• Analyse logs and prepare reports covering utilisation, trends, and costs.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with packaging applications and preparing AVD images for deployment.
• Configure session hosts and the relevant platform settings.
• Conduct application testing and provide support for User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Coordinate onboarding activities, including dependencies, timelines, stakeholders, and delivery actions.
• Support semester-based AVD image refresh cycles and related application packaging requirements.
• Re-package existing applications and package new applications required by the respective schools.

Qualifications

• A relevant Microsoft Azure Specialization designation applicable to the proposed AVD services.
• AZ-140: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty certification.
• AZ-104: Azure Administrator Associate certification.
• SC-300: Identity and Access Administrator Associate certification.
• Strong and demonstrable expertise in AVD, supported by a clearly defined support methodology.
• Ability to manage complex, multi-tenant AVD environments.
