Position Overview
The AWS Integration Consultant / Architect is responsible for designing, delivering, and governing enterprise-grade integration solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS). The role enables organisations to connect cloud-native, hybrid, and SaaS systems using secure, scalable, and resilient integration patterns.
Depending on experience and seniority, the role may focus on hands-on integration delivery (Consultant) or architecture, integration strategy, and standards definition (Architect). The role works closely with business stakeholders, application teams, security architects, and platform teams to ensure integrations are reliable, sustainable, and aligned to enterprise cloud and security standards.
Key Responsibilities
Integration Design & Delivery
- Design and implement integrations using AWS services such as Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon SNS/SQS, and AWS Step Functions.
- Implement API-based, event-driven, and message-based integration patterns.
- Translate business and technical requirements into integration designs and implementations.
- Support integrations across enterprise systems including ERP, CRM, HR, data platforms, and SaaS applications.
Architecture & Standards (Architect Focus)
- Define AWS integration architecture, patterns, and best practices.
- Establish reusable integration components and reference architectures.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise security, networking, IAM, and governance standards.
- Review solution designs and provide architectural guidance across delivery teams.
Operations, Monitoring & Support
- Design error handling, retries, dead-letter queues, and monitoring strategies.
- Implement logging, tracing, and alerting using AWS monitoring tools.
- Support testing, deployment, cutover, and post-go-live stabilisation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and performance issues.
- Contribute to operational documentation and support runbooks.
Collaboration & Advisory
- Collaborate with business, application, data, and cloud platform teams.
- Advise stakeholders on AWS integration approaches and trade-offs.
- Mentor junior consultants and engineers (Senior / Architect level).
Skills, Experience and Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in AWS integration services and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, and workflow orchestration.
- Understanding of data transformation and integration design patterns.
- Knowledge of AWS IAM, security, networking, and cloud governance.
- Experience integrating AWS with enterprise and SaaS platforms.
Experience (Role Level Determination)
AWS Integration Architect
- 10–14+ years of overall IT experience.
- 7–10+ years of AWS integration and solution architecture experience.
- Proven experience defining enterprise integration strategies and cloud standards.
AWS Integration Consultant
- 6–8 years of overall IT experience.
- 4–6 years of hands-on AWS integration experience.
- Strong focus on solution delivery and implementation.
Competencies
- Systems thinking in complex SI working effectively across complicated to complex integrations, adapts delivery approach (agile/waterfall/hybrid), and making sound decisions with potentially incomplete information.
- Delivery governance and assurance applying fit for purpose governance, decision records and quality controls to protect outcomes and minimise rework.
- Stakeholder and vendor management aligning multiple parties (client, vendors and delivery streams) to scope, milestones and technical standards.
- Commercial and requirements discipline clarifying assumptions, dependencies, risks and Customer Furnished Items (CFIs), and maintains requirements traceability and clear definition of done.
- Architecture-to-execution alignment translating solution intent into build ready artefacts (interfaces, data flows, controls, environments and sequencing) that engineering teams can execute with confidence.
- Secure-by-design delivery embedding security, privacy, identity and access controls into integration designs from day one (designed in, not bolted on).
- Reuse and acceleration leveraging reference architectures, patterns, standards and accelerators to increase delivery velocity and consistency.
- Operational readiness designing for run (monitoring, support model, runbooks and auditability) to ensure stable operations post go live.
Qualifications and Certifications
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate (Consultant).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional (Architect).
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (desirable).
