Job Description
- Diagnose Vehicle Problems
- Use diagnostic tools and test drives to identify mechanical or electrical issues.
- Perform Repairs and Replacements
- Fix or replace faulty parts like brakes, transmissions, engines, steering systems, etc.
- Conduct Routine Maintenance
- Oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, brake inspections, battery tests, etc.
- Inspect Vehicles
- Ensure safety and compliance with manufacturer and legal standards.
- Communicate with Customers
- Explain issues, repairs needed, cost estimates, and maintenance advice in clear terms.
- Use Specialized Tools and Equipment
- Operate hoists, wrenches, alignment machines, diagnostic scanners, etc.
- Update Service Records
- Maintain logs of repairs, parts used, and customer histories.
- Follow Safety Protocols
- Adhere to shop safety guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Stay Updated on Automotive Technology
- Learn about new vehicle systems (especially with EVs, hybrids, and advanced electronics).
- Work with a Team
- Coordinate with service advisors, parts specialists, and other mechanics.
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Completion of a vocational or technical training program in automotive repair (preferred)
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification (often preferred or required)
- With basic hands-on experience as an auto mechanic or technician (entry-level roles may train)
- Experience with diagnostic tools, repair manuals, and shop software (a plus)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and vehicle service logs
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer literacy (for repair logs and diagnostic tools)
- Physical stamina and dexterity (e.g., lifting heavy parts, standing for long periods)
