Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive AutoCAD Draftsperson & Estimator, and Business Development Coordinator to join their team. Working directly with the business owner, this multi-faceted role spans technical CAD drafting, material estimating, tender research, and production support. The successful candidate is responsible for managing the technical and pre-construction lifecycle of custom metal fabrication projects—converting architectural and hospitality plans into production-ready workshop drawings, generating DXF/laser-cutting files, performing detailed material take-offs, preparing commercial estimates, and identifying prospective B2B growth opportunities across the Australian construction and hospitality sectors.
Client Overview
Our client is a growing Australian commercial stainless steel and metal fabrication specialist delivering custom solutions for commercial kitchens, hospitality fit-outs, and architectural metalwork projects nationwide. To support expanding operations, they are seeking an experienced and proactive team member to support their growth.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 07:00 AM - 04:00 PM AEST/AEDT, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- CAD Drafting & Design: Interpret architectural, engineering, and fit-out plans to produce accurate workshop drawings, elevations, sections, and client approval layouts in AutoCAD. Generate production-ready DXF files for CNC laser cutting, maintain revision controls, and optimize standard drawing libraries.
- Estimating & Quoting: Perform precise material take-offs from architectural plans. Calculate hardware, fabrication labor, and installation requirements to prepare detailed commercial quotes using Excel templates while managing supplier pricing and margin accuracy.
- Business Development Support: Research commercial construction and hospitality tenders across Australia. Prepare technical proposal documentation, generate concept layouts to support sales discussions, conduct post-quote follow-ups, and maintain CRM records.
- Project & Production Coordination: Assemble complete manufacturing packages, cutting lists, and material schedules. Liaise directly with workshop personnel, management, and suppliers to resolve drawing conflicts and verify specs prior to production release.
Requirements
- Software & Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2D detailing and shop drawings) and strong Microsoft Excel skills for estimation modeling.
- Industry & Fabrication Knowledge: Demonstrated experience drafting and estimating for stainless steel, sheet metal, architectural metalwork, or commercial kitchen equipment. Practical understanding of metal fabrication, assembly, and laser-cutting file generation (DXF).
- Take-off & Estimating Capability: Proven track record completing accurate material take-offs, labor estimations, and commercial quotations.
- Communication & Professionalism: Excellent written and spoken English skills suitable for direct communication with Australian builders, architects, suppliers, and internal management.
- Hardware & Setup: Dedicated home office with a high-performance computer capable of running AutoCAD smoothly alongside a reliable high-speed internet connection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working on Australian commercial construction, hospitality, or joinery projects (Highly Regarded).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD/modeling software (SolidWorks, Inventor, SketchUp) and project management/CRM platforms e.g., Monday.com (Highly Regarded).
- Background in technical B2B sales, tender research, or business development support (Highly Regarded).
