We are seeking a motivated Australian Mortgage Underwriter to support our growing business.
As our Mortgage Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the loan application process. This includes assessing and managing credit risks associated with loan applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to the overall success of our lending operations. You will have a strong background in lending, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
Your attention to detail and adherence to established guidelines will be crucial in ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate loan applications and financial documentation to assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers.
- Analyse financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant information to determine the risk level associated with each application.
- Take complete ownership of all applications once submitted and manage their timely and efficient progress through to formal approval.
- Regular and proactive contact with the introducing parties (brokers) to ensure that they understand what's required at each step.
- Be available and accessible to brokers / sales team to support the progression of applications as needed.
- Implement effective risk management strategies to mitigate potential credit risks. Monitor and review pipeline to ensure SLA is achieved and sufficient follow up maintained through the journey of the loan application.
- Stay updated on regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations in the non-bank lending sector.
- Provide guidance and support to other team members on credit-related matters.
- Make informed and timely credit decisions based on thorough analysis and assessment of risk factors.
- Present credit recommendations to management for approval or denial.
- Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers or clients to gather additional information, clarify details, and provide feedback on credit decisions.
- Demonstrating clear and concise communication with internal and external stakeholders as required, ensuring a positive customer experience while maintaining the integrity of credit processes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive credit assessments for each loan application.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and in compliance with internal and external policies and regulations.
- Undertake any other responsibilities consistent with skills, qualifications and experience, as may be required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:
- Minimum of 1-2 years regulated mortgage underwriting experience with Australian based residential and commercial mortgages.
- Sound understanding of financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and lending principles.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent time management in accordance with company SLA and overall tardiness.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised, self-motivated, and self-sufficient.
- Demonstrate a Can Do attitude.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change and to work under pressure.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage additional task set by management when required.
