Job Description

The Australia Payroll Specialist is a key professional responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process for employees across various countries within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, preferably with experience in Australia payroll. This role requires a strong understanding of diverse payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements specific to each country. They ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll disbursements, working closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless operations.

What the role offers:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for specific APAC countries, including data collection and final approval.
  • Ensure timely and accurate salary and benefits disbursement according to regional pay dates.
  • Process employee-related data, including new hires, terminations, and salary changes.
  • Coordinate with third-party payroll vendors for accurate payroll execution.
  • Review and reconcile payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with local payroll legislation and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit government reports and filings in a timely manner.
  • Stay informed about local payroll law changes and adjust your processes accordingly.
  • Support audits by providing accurate payroll documentation.
  • Conduct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll closes, including reconciliations.
  • Generate payroll journals and GL files for finance.
  • Apply appropriate FX rates for currency translations in payments.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries and resolve any discrepancies that may arise.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle payroll information with discretion.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in payroll processes.
  • Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for payroll activities.
  • Participate in payroll-related projects, such as system enhancements and automation.
  • Maintain organized payroll records and collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Finance.
  • Manage relationships with local payroll providers and external suppliers.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of payroll processing experience, particularly in multi-country payroll management within the APAC region.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, regulations, and compliance across multiple countries (e.g., Australia, Philippines, China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia).
  • Preferred experience in global organizations and payroll system implementations.
  • Proficient in payroll software and HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, ADP) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Familiarity with financial reporting systems and understanding of HR and payroll accounting processes.
  • Strong analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail and a solid understanding of internal controls and risk management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in additional APAC languages is a plus.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and adept at managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with high integrity; able to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), Global Payroll Management Certification (GPC).
