Senior Tax Accountant (Australian Tax)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with strong Australian tax and compliance expertise to join our growing team. This role will suit a professional who is confident managing multiple tax engagements, working closely with clients, and supporting junior staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any related field.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Australian tax and accounting.
- Proven experience preparing financial statements and tax returns across multiple entity types.
- Strong understanding of Australian taxation and compliance requirements.
Skills & Systems
- Proficient in CCH & Thomson legal technical libraries and Microsoft Office; experience with Xero is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising with clients, the ATO, and external stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage deadlines effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review income tax returns, tax calculations, and financial reports across a range of entity types including companies, trusts, and individuals
- Manage taxation engagements end-to-end, ensuring work is completed in line with quality standards, budgets, and deadlines
- Review workpapers and tax files, ensuring compliance with Australian tax legislation and internal quality control standards
- Provide technical tax support and draft tax advice for Partner/Director review
- Assist in the preparation of tax notes, DTA/DTL, ITE/PIT, and other supporting schedules as required
- Liaise confidently with clients, the ATO, and external stakeholders to resolve queries and progress engagements
- Identify taxation risks, compliance issues, and opportunities to add value for clients
- Supervise, mentor, and provide on-the-job training to junior and cadet staff
- Stay up to date with changes in Australian tax law and apply them in practical client situations.
