Your Role
As an AU General Accountant , you are responsible for:
- Prepare and review BAS, IAS, and other indirect tax obligations, ensuring full compliance with ATO regulations and reporting requirements.
- Review and oversee the preparation of Income Tax Returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs).
- Manage the preparation and final review of financial statements, management reports, consolidated accounts, and depreciation schedules for a diverse portfolio of clients.
- Provide technical guidance on complex taxation matters, including Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Division 7A, and business structuring considerations.
- Act as a primary advisor and relationship manager for key clients, delivering strategic tax, compliance, and business advisory solutions.
- Lead client engagements, proactively identifying tax planning opportunities, business improvements, and risk mitigation strategies to maximize client outcomes.
- Partner with Directors and Partners on high-level tax planning, business advisory, succession planning, and corporate restructuring projects.
- Oversee month-end and year-end accounting processes, including account reconciliations, journal reviews, financial analysis, and reporting accuracy.
- Drive process improvement initiatives, system optimization, and automation projects across accounting and taxation workflows using Xero, Xero Practice Manager (XPM), and related platforms.
- Review workpapers, compliance files, and supporting documentation to ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical training to junior and intermediate accountants, supporting professional development and team performance.
- Maintain exceptional quality standards, ensuring all deliverables are client-ready, technically accurate, and completed within deadlines.
- Contribute to business growth initiatives through client retention, cross-selling advisory services, and strengthening strategic client relationships.
- Stay current with legislative changes, accounting standards, and taxation updates, providing technical insights and guidance to the broader team.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in Australian public practice accounting, with demonstrated experience managing complex client portfolios and advisory engagements.
- Advanced proficiency in Xero, Xero Practice Manager (XPM), and cloud-based accounting technologies.
- Extensive experience reviewing and managing BAS, IAS, financial statements, tax returns, and compliance obligations across multiple entity structures.
- Strong technical expertise in Australian taxation legislation, accounting standards, and business advisory services.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to advise business owners and senior decision-makers.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring, reviewing work, and managing accounting teams.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify advisory opportunities and deliver value-added solutions.
- Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, or equivalent) completed or in progress.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, complex engagements, and client relationships while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- High level of accountability, ownership, and commitment to delivering exceptional client service and business results.
