About The Role
We are looking for an experienced
Australian Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to join our growing team. This role combines end-to-end bookkeeping with assistant accounting responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both transactional accounting and financial reporting.
You will work closely with Australian businesses and accountants, supporting day-to-day bookkeeping, month-end processes, compliance, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping
- Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for Australian clients.
- Process Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Process payroll, superannuation, leave entitlements, and STP.
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries.
- Prepare BAS and IAS working papers and assist with lodgements.
- Manage supplier payments and customer invoicing.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Assistant Accounting
- Assist with month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare management reports and financial reports.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
- Process accruals, prepayments, and depreciation journals.
- Support budgeting and cash flow reporting.
- Assist in preparing workpapers for tax returns and financial statements.
- Support senior accountants with ATO compliance requirements.
- Identify and recommend process improvements.
Requirements- Minimum 5 years of Australian bookkeeping and/or accounting experience.
- Experience supporting Australian accounting firms or businesses.
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and ATO requirements.

- Bank Reconciliations

- Financial Reporting
- Advanced proficiency in Xero (required).
- Experience with MYOB, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or SAP is advantageous.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal English communication.
- Ability to manage multiple clients independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Xero Certified Advisor.
- Experience working in an Australian public practice or outsourced accounting firm.
- Experience reviewing junior bookkeepers work.
Ideal Offshore Candidate (Mandatory)
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven experience with BAS, IAS, GST, Payroll and Superannuation
- Advanced proficiency in Xero
- Strong understanding of Australian financial reporting requirements
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
