Job Summary
The Assistant Manager – Desktop & Mobile Development leads, guides, and supports the engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining multi-platform desktop and mobile applications. Balancing hands-on technical guidance with team leadership, this role oversees project execution, architectural integrity, and code quality while mentoring software engineers. You will collaborate closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, and cross-functional technology teams to translate business requirements into performant, secure, and user-centric desktop and mobile solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of cross-platform desktop applications (e.g., Electron, .NET/C#, C++) and mobile applications (iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, or native platforms).
- Review technical designs, conduct code reviews, and maintain engineering standards across all development sprints.
- Drive architectural choices, ensuring applications are scalable, secure, modular, and optimized for performance.
- Establish standard operating procedures for continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, and release management across app stores and enterprise distribution channels.
Project & Team Delivery
- Manage sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and resource allocation in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and UI/UX designers to translate requirements into clear user stories and technical tasks.
- Identify project risks, technical debt, and bottlenecks, implementing proactive solutions to ensure on-time delivery.
- Coordinate deployment cycles, app store submission processes (Apple App Store, Google Play Store), and desktop application installer updates.
People Management & Mentorship
- Assist in managing, coaching, and evaluating the desktop and mobile engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and continuous-learning team culture.
- Conduct regular technical check-ins, identify skill gaps, and support team members in their career growth.
- Assist in talent acquisition, interviewing, and onboarding new engineers.
Governance, Security & Quality Assurance
- Enforce mobile and desktop security best practices, data privacy standards (e.g., GDPR, local privacy laws), and secure coding practices.
- Partner with QA teams to drive automated testing strategies (unit, integration, and UI testing).
- Monitor post-release application performance, crash analytics, and user feedback to prioritize bug fixes and optimizations.
Key Competencies
- Technical Depth: Deep proficiency in both mobile (native or cross-platform) and desktop application frameworks, architecture, and deployment pipelines.
- Agile Leadership: Strong ability to run Agile ceremonies, manage project timelines, and balance competing technical priorities.
- Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking: Aptitude for troubleshooting complex software bugs, performance bottlenecks, and system integration issues.
- Communication & Collaboration: Clear verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and bridge product-engineering gaps.
- People & Team Development: Proven capability to mentor engineers, build cohesive teams, and promote engineering excellence.
