Job Description
Job Title: Associate Director (AU)
Work Setup & Schedule:
Hybrid (7AM to 4PM)
What you'll be doing:
- Reviewing Business Activity Statements.
- Reviewing junior working papers and other assigned accounting work for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
- Identifying errors and recurring issues and recording them in a written log so that patterns across the team are visible.
- Providing clear corrections, explanations and technical feedback to the preparer, including the reason behind each correction rather than simply fixing the work.
- Communicating proactively with the onshore team – raising significant errors, queries and trends as they arise rather than at the conclusion of a job.
- Escalating recurring or significant issues to the relevant Job Supervisor and to the client's Executive team.
- Performing bank, debtor, creditor, payroll and balance sheet reconciliations as required, and investigating and resolving reconciling items
- Assisting the Senior Accountant with annual compliance work, financial statements, income tax returns and other tasks as directed.
- Supporting the Job Supervisor in identifying areas where further training or process improvement is required.
- Meeting with the client's Executive team weekly to report on recurring mistakes, technical weaknesses, training requirements, process improvements and the recommended next course of action.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy of client financial information.
- Handling source documents and correspondence by email with links or folder locations, so that nothing is lost in chat.
- Performing other accounting duties as required in the course of their engagement.
What will make you a great fit:
- Preferably a CPA with at least 5 years of tax experience in a reputable professional services firm
- Experience in Xero and Australian accounting is required
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work independently and take lead in understanding and meeting client's businesses.
- Strong accounting and BAS technical knowledge.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and proactive communication habits - raising matters early and in writing.
- Ability to clearly explain technical matters to a preparer of a lower experience level.
- Patience and a willingness to provide constructive feedback and training.
- Ability to identify the root cause of repetitive errors rather than simply correcting them
