Job Title: Associate Program Manager – Payroll (APGM Payroll)

Job Summary

The Assistant/Associate Program Manager – Payroll (APGM Payroll) is responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing across geographies. The role involves managing payroll teams, driving process improvements, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and collaborating with HR, Finance, and external vendors to deliver seamless payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations Management

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees across assigned regions/countries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely salary disbursements, statutory deductions, and reporting.
  • Review payroll outputs, reconciliations, and variance analysis before finalization.
  • Oversee off-cycle payments, bonuses, and adjustments.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support internal/external audits.
  • Implement and monitor payroll controls to mitigate risks and errors.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as primary point of contact for HR, Finance, and external payroll vendors.
  • Address payroll queries, escalations, and complex cases effectively.
  • Coordinate with global teams for payroll alignment and consistency.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members.
  • Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure SLA adherence.
  • Conduct training sessions and capability-building initiatives.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency.
  • Drive automation initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Standardize payroll procedures and documentation.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Generate and review payroll reports, MIS dashboards, and cost analysis.
  • Provide insights on payroll trends, discrepancies, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support financial reporting and budgeting processes.

Key Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, HR, or related field.
  • MBA / Postgraduate qualification preferred.

Experience

  • 10–15+ years of experience in payroll processing, with at least 2–4 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
  • Experience handling multi-country or large-scale payroll is highly preferred.
  • Exposure to payroll system (Oracle) is desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, taxation, and statutory compliance.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and payroll systems.
