IT Infrastructure Assistant Manager
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Assistant Manager to oversee the day-to-day management, support, and continuous improvement of the organisation's IT infrastructure environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of IT systems while supporting infrastructure projects, cybersecurity initiatives, vendor management, and service delivery.
This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities and offers the opportunity to contribute to infrastructure modernisation and digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure Operations
- Manage and support IT infrastructure services across multiple business locations.
- Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of servers, storage, network infrastructure, cloud services, and end-user computing environments.
- Administer and support Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related services.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, system diagrams, operational procedures, and technical standards.
Team Leadership & Service Management
- Supervise and mentor IT support and infrastructure personnel.
- Ensure timely resolution of incidents, service requests, and operational issues.
- Monitor service performance and prepare regular operational reports for management.
- Support the continuous improvement of IT service delivery processes.
Infrastructure Projects & Technology Enhancement
- Lead and support infrastructure-related projects, including system upgrades, hardware refreshes, cloud migration initiatives, network enhancements, and technology modernisation programmes.
- Coordinate project activities with internal stakeholders, vendors, and service providers.
- Manage project documentation, implementation plans, risk assessments, testing, and post-implementation reviews.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Support the implementation of IT security controls, infrastructure hardening standards, patch management, endpoint protection, and access management practices.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity stakeholders to address vulnerabilities, support audits, and strengthen the organisation's security posture.
- Ensure compliance with established security policies and operational standards.
Backup, Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Manage backup solutions, recovery testing, and disaster recovery processes.
- Ensure critical business systems are protected and recoverable in accordance with business requirements.
- Support business continuity planning and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
Asset & Lifecycle Management
- Maintain accurate records of IT hardware, software licenses, infrastructure assets, warranties, and support agreements.
- Manage asset lifecycle activities, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, replacement, and disposal.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with vendors, managed service providers, telecommunications providers, and technology partners to support operational requirements and project delivery.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure service commitments are achieved.
- Support contract renewals, procurement activities, and budget tracking where required.
Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain infrastructure standards, operating procedures, technical documentation, and support processes.
- Support IT governance and change management processes to ensure infrastructure changes are properly assessed, tested, approved, and documented.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service quality, and technology utilisation.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure operations, systems administration, network support, or infrastructure engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory, team lead, or management capacity.
- Experience supporting enterprise IT environments, including servers, networks, cloud services, cybersecurity controls, and end-user computing.
- Proven experience managing infrastructure projects, system upgrades, technology refresh initiatives, or migration projects.
- Strong understanding of IT service management processes, including incident, change, problem, and asset management.
- Experience managing vendors, service providers, and external technology partners.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills
- Windows Server administration and Microsoft infrastructure technologies.
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file services, and access management.
- Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and endpoint management solutions.
- Virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Backup and recovery solutions.
- Network technologies including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, routing, switching, and firewall administration.
- Endpoint security, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud environments.
- Monitoring, ticketing, remote support, and asset management tools.
- Disaster recovery, business continuity, and backup validation processes.
- Technical documentation, infrastructure diagramming, and reporting.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience supporting ERP, CRM, WMS, or other enterprise business applications.
- Exposure to infrastructure automation, scripting, reporting, or data visualisation tools.
- Experience supporting compliance initiatives, IT audits, cybersecurity frameworks, or information security standards.
- Experience working within multi-site, regional, retail, logistics, manufacturing, or corporate environments.
- Professional certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, Cloud, Cybersecurity, or IT Service Management disciplines will be advantageous.
