About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Architectural Drafter / Designer (Virtual Assistant) to support our Australian construction team in preparing accurate, high-quality architectural and construction drawings. The successful candidate will have strong technical drafting skills, experience with Australian residential and light commercial projects, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and estimators in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare architectural drawings, layouts, and construction documentation based on sketches, mark-ups, engineering details, and project specifications.
- Produce detailed floor plans, elevations, sections, framing details, and construction drawings.
- Revise and update drawings throughout the design and construction process.
- Ensure all drawings comply with Australian building standards, NCC requirements, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure design accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain drawing registers, revisions, and project documentation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, architectural plans, and technical specifications.
- Assist in developing construction-ready documentation for residential and light commercial projects.
- Maintain organized digital drawing files and project records.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Architectural Drafter, Building Designer, or Architectural Technician.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, or other industry-standard drafting software.
- Strong understanding of architectural drafting standards and construction documentation.
- Ability to accurately interpret sketches, engineering details, and technical instructions.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a reliable internet connection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the Australian construction industry is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Australian National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards.
- Experience with residential and/or light commercial construction.
- Knowledge of:
- Structural timber framing
- Facade systems
- Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF/LSF)
- Experience using 2D drafting software for construction documentation.
- Understanding of construction quality procedures and material take-offs.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, technical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Nice to have a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, Building Design, or a related discipline.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail-oriented Architectural Drafter who is comfortable working remotely, communicates effectively with Australian-based teams, and can produce accurate, construction-ready documentation while meeting project deadlines. Experience supporting Australian residential construction projects and familiarity with local building regulations will be highly regarde.
