Architectural Designer – Historic Stone House Renovation (Freelance Contract)

About the Project

We are looking for an experienced Architectural Designer to help develop a renovation concept for a historic 1900s stone house located in Southwest France.

The vision is to preserve the original character, texture, and charm of the stone architecture while creating a serene, contemporary interior with clean lines, natural materials, and light-filled spaces. The final design should bring together the home's historic features with a modern, timeless feel.

This is a fully remote project. You will work from provided photographs, measurements, and existing layout sketches, collaborating directly with the owners throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

Develop renovation concepts that respect the original character of a historic stone property
Create contemporary interior design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and practicality
Produce clear architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, and sections
Prepare technical drawings and documentation suitable for local builder quotations
Research and consider realistic construction costs for the Southwest France region
Present design ideas through online meetings and incorporate feedback through revision rounds
Deliver final drawings and documentation required for project planning and builder discussions

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in architecture, architectural design, or residential renovation
Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with historic, period, stone, or masonry buildings
Experience combining traditional architectural character with contemporary interiors
Ability to create accurate technical drawings for builders and contractors
Comfortable working remotely using photographs, measurements, and existing plans
Strong understanding of practical construction considerations and budget-conscious design
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
