Architect I is responsible for managing technical aspects of larger and/or more complex tasks or components of projects, meeting financial, quality, timeframe and health and safety objectives. Manage the delivery of elements of larger projects in accordance with Arcadis management systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets. Typically assigned to provide a controlling technical role on medium size and/or moderately complex tasks in single discipline. Coordinate and manage teams of single (own) discipline designers and technicians
Role accountabilities:
- Perform role in accordance with Arcadis behavioral framework
- Promote and role model Arcadis Health and Safety Principles during the planning and delivery of work
- Review and quality assure the work of other staff prior to delivery to ensure it meets the requirements of the client's brief
- Develop and propose potential solutions to meet or exceed client expectations. Guide the project team through the creative decision making process and provide alternative solutions if there are changes to project parameters
- Oversee an agreed scope of work and the operational workload of a project team, ensuring work is allocated appropriately and resources are fully utilized
- Manage the production of project deliverables to ensure that these meet or exceed client expectations, Arcadis requirements and comply with national standards and codes of practice
- Work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution and to resolve complex technical issues
- Manage the performance of team members, identifying and resolving any issues
- Identify opportunities for Arcadis process improvements that improve quality and/or improve efficiency
- Lead and provide direction and technical advice to team members, to support them in their delivery on the project and in their professional development
- Develop effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and ensure effective communication of progress, changes and resolution of issues
- Take responsibility and accountability for own performance and that of junior team members
- Develop and review budgets for GEC scope elements of a project
- Further develop and maintain a good understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking in the company
- Thorough understanding of sustainable development best practices
- Thorough understanding of the key principles of the profession across one or more sectors
- Technical ownership of the Safety in Design process including Designer Hazard Logs, agreeing hierarchical system of risk management and communication of residual risks to the Project Manager in Arcadis regional offices
- Maintain and extend a sound theoretical approach to the application of technology in design practice
- Ability to use a sound evidence-based approach to problem solving and be able to contribute to continuous improvement
- Can coach and mentor design professionals to support the development of Arcadis talent pool
- Possess effective task management skills
- Ability to lead and provide direction and technical advice to team members, to support them in their delivery and in their professional development
- Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct operated by professional institution
- Demonstrate appropriate professional standards, recognizing obligations to society, the profession and the environment
- Communicate effectively with others at all levels including effective use of English orally and in writing
- Effective personal and social skills and able to manage diversity issues
- Sound knowledge of safety legislation, hazards and safe systems of work
- Understand how to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility
- Encourage collaboration across the GEC and with business partners
- In depth understanding of the Arcadis business and the Environment or Safety and Risk Management Communities of Practice, Service Capabilities and Value Propositions
- In depth understanding of Arcadis key financial metrics and the implications on the successful operation of the business
Qualifications & Experience:
- Registered Architect with demonstrable experience on wide range of complex projects at different stages
- Proficient in Design, Autocad, Sketchup, Revit, Adobe Suite, Lumion, Enscape
- Minimum 7 years experience architecture design works
- Knowledgeable in Navisworks and clash detection is an advantage
- You understand the design process and ability to deliver this from concept into detail design and understand how to identify and design key details, and onto to project completion
- Understanding detail for compliance requirements e.g., building regulations and working knowledge of Region's Building Systems, Regulations and construction types will be required for this role.
- Highly computer literate, skilled in Revit, AutoCAD and SketchUp, Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications
- You have excellent presentational and communicational skills both verbally to liaise with other disciplines/ team members, but also visually using software or hand drawing skills.
- Relevant technical experience on Education (at least K-12) projects is an advantage
Familiar with International Building Code (IBC), particular to United States.
