Job Description

Role Purpose/ Objective:

The role ensures that the business unit and operational functions comply with applicable banking regulations, internal policies, ethical standards, and regulatory expectations.

Provides compliance advisory, conduct oversight and monitoring activities, performs risk assessment, investigate potential breaches, internal and external fraud cases, and supports regulatory and audit engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Compliance Oversight & Governance

  • Oversees the implementation of AFASA and ABC compliance programs across business units.
  • Ensures the compliance controls align with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Provides independent challenge to the control effectiveness of the First Line of Defense.
  • Supports the enhancement of the Bank's compliance governance framework.

2. Regulatory Compliance Monitoring

  • Conducts periodic compliance monitoring and testing activities.
  • Reviews adherence to AFASA and ABC requirements across products, channels, and operations.
  • Identifies compliance gaps, control weaknesses, and policy deviations.
  • Escalates significant findings to Compliance Management and Senior Management.

3. Risk Assessment & Control Review

  • Performs compliance risk assessments and thematic reviews.
  • Evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of compliance controls implemented by First line of defense
  • Monitors key compliance risk indicators (KRIs) and trends.
  • Recommends corrective actions and mitigation measures.

4. Advisory & Stakeholder Support

  • Provides compliance advisory support to business and operational units.
  • Interprets the regulatory requirements and communicates implementation expectations.
  • Supports business initiatives, product launches, and process changes from a compliance perspective.

5. Incident & Breach Management

  • Reviews, investigates and assesses compliance incidents, breaches, and escalation cases.
  • Coordinates investigations relating to AFASA and ABC concerns.
  • Ensures root cause analysis and remediation plans are completed and tracked.

6. Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) Program Management

  • Monitors the compliance with anti-bribery, anti-corruption, conflict of interest, and gifts & entertainment policies.
  • Supports due diligence reviews for third parties, vendors, and high-risk relationships.
  • Monitors suspicious or unethical conduct indicators.
  • Promotes ethical culture and integrity standards across the Bank.
  • Conducts the compliance testing and review.

7. Reporting & Regulatory Engagement

  • Prepares relevant periodic compliance reports, dashboards, and management updates.
  • Supports regulatory submissions, examinations, and inquiries.
  • Coordinates responses to internal and external audit observations.

8. Training & Awareness

  • Conducts compliance awareness and ABC and fraud-related training sessions.
  • Supports dissemination of regulatory updates and policy changes.
  • Promotes compliance culture within the organization.

9. Policy & Framework Management

  • Assists in developing and updating AFASA and ABC policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensures policies remain aligned with regulatory developments and industry practices.

10. Other Tasks

  • Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

Job specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Banking, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Law degree is an advantage.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is preferred but not required.
  • At least 4–7 years of experience in banking compliance, operational risk, audit, fraud investigation, or regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in AFASA, AML, fraud risk, ethics and compliance, or Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption (ABC)programs is preferred.
