Job Description

We are looking for an experienced AI engineer to help build and scale Aeven's AI platform capabilities. In this role, you will lead the technical direction of the AI Gateway, develop reusable AI patterns, and establish the foundation for secure and scalable AI adoption across the organization. You will work closely with Security, Platform Engineering, Network teams, and business stakeholders to ensure AI solutions are production-ready, reusable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Own the technical direction and delivery of the AI Gateway, including model routing, key management, budget controls, guardrails, auditability, and OpenAI-compatible upstream integrations.
Design, develop, and implement reference RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines, including document ingestion, retrieval mechanisms, access-control-aware patterns, and evaluation frameworks.
Deliver MCP (Model Context Protocol) and tool integrations as reusable enterprise patterns rather than one-off solutions.
Partner with Security, Infrastructure, and Platform Engineering teams to establish identity management, data classification, governance, and production readiness standards.
Develop documentation, operational runbooks, and support models to enable operational ownership by trained teams across the organization.
Drive AI enablement through templates, design standards, code reviews, technical guidance, office hours, and engineering mentorship.
Evaluate and challenge custom development requests, prioritizing platform capabilities and reusable solutions whenever possible.
Contribute technical estimates, architecture decisions, and implementation approaches to the AI CoE backlog and roadmap.
Promote engineering best practices for AI platform development, observability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

5+ years of professional software engineering experience with responsibility for production systems.
Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, including API development and system integration.
Hands-on experience developing Generative AI and LLM-based applications, including tool calling, orchestration frameworks, and evaluation methodologies.
Strong understanding of RAG architectures, including chunking strategies, embeddings, vector databases, grounding techniques, and access-control-aware implementations.
Experience with API gateways, reverse proxies, or LLM gateway technologies such as LiteLLM or equivalent platforms.
Cloud platform experience, preferably Microsoft Azure, with knowledge of Linux environments, containerization, and modern deployment practices.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder collaboration.
Demonstrated experience mentoring, enabling, or coaching engineers through reviews, templates, standards, communities, or pairing activities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on scalable, maintainable, and production-ready solutions.

Good-to-Have:

Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool integration protocols.
Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and enterprise authentication patterns.
Experience with observability tools, monitoring, tracing, token tracking, and AI cost visibility.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, container orchestration platforms, and hybrid on-premises GPU inference environments.
Experience working within regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, life sciences, public sector, or other compliance-driven environments.
Experience with vector databases, pgvector-based solutions, enterprise document pipelines, and knowledge management platforms.
Familiarity with FinOps principles related to AI workload management and optimization.

Others:

This role focuses on building scalable AI platforms and reusable patterns rather than delivering bespoke solutions for individual teams.
Production support responsibilities are designed for operational handoff and enablement rather than long-term ownership by the AI CoE.
Candidates should be passionate about developing robust, production-grade AI solutions that drive enterprise-wide adoption.

Work Schedule

Employees will be expected to adhere to a flexible hybrid work schedule, with a required presence in the office for 1 day per week, allowing for customization of work hours within a specified morning or mid-shift time frame.
