What are we looking for

We're looking for a highly agile, systems-oriented AI Engineer who thrives at the intersection of product and engineering.

As the AI Engineer, you will work directly with the Director and the delivery team to build and maintain the AI systems, automations, and integrations that the organization uses internally and delivers to clients. This is a hands-on technical role with a strong emphasis on learning, adaptability, and taking initiative.

What are you expected to do

  • Build, deploy, and maintain MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that connect Claude AI to business systems such as Xero, NetSuite, Monday.com, Outlook, and SharePoint
  • Create and maintain SKILL files that define how Claude behaves in specific contexts, ensuring consistent, high-quality AI output across the team
  • Manage and extend n8n workflow automations running on AWS EC2, including MCP proxy workflows and data pipelines
  • Support Microsoft 365 administration and integration with AI tools, including Claude for Work (Teams plan) connector configuration and rollout
  • Maintain and improve the Obsidian Brain: our shared knowledge vault that syncs across the team via GitHub, giving Claude long-term memory
  • Assist with AWS infrastructure: EC2 instances, RDS (PostgreSQL/pgvector), S3, Secrets Manager, CloudFront, and Elastic Beanstalk deployments
  • Build and support client-facing AI applications on AWS Bedrock (Claude), including Flask web applications and API integrations
  • Write and maintain documentation, runbooks, and session notes in the Obsidian vault so knowledge is never lost
  • Test, troubleshoot, and iterate on AI workflows, prompts, and tool configurations

You'll be a great fit if:

  • You have 2 years of experience identifying automation and AI agent opportunities across the product and internal operations.
  • You have a solid understanding of how large language models (LLMs) work, including prompting, context windows, tool use, and agentic workflows
  • You have experience with Claude AI (Anthropic) or equivalent LLM platforms
  • You understand MCP (Model Context Protocol), including what it is, how servers are built, and how tools are registered and invoked
  • You are able to write and maintain SKILL files (structured prompt documents that guide AI behaviour for specific tasks)
  • You are familiar with AI governance concepts, including data sovereignty, DPAs, account types, and the difference between consumer and enterprise AI
  • You are amenable to work during 7AM-4PM, Monday-Friday.

It would be desirable if:

  • You have previous experience in a technology consulting or managed services environment
  • You have familiarity with Xero, NetSuite, or other accounting/ERP platforms
  • You have experience with Monday.com or similar project management tools
  • You have an understanding of the Australian Privacy Act and data sovereignty requirements
  • You have experience building chatbots or AI-powered web applications
  • You have familiarity with Claude Code (Anthropic's CLI tool for agentic coding)

Additional technical skills:

Development and Infrastructure

  • Python: Flask, FastMCP, scripting, API integrations
  • Node.js/TypeScript: MCP server packages, n8n custom nodes
  • AWS: EC2, S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, CloudFront, Elastic Beanstalk, Bedrock, IAM (Sydney region, ap-southeast-2)
  • Docker: container management, networking (including Docker-to-host communication)
  • Git and GitHub: version control, repository management, automated sync workflows
  • Linux (Ubuntu): systemd services, cron jobs, SSH/SSM access, file permissions
  • n8n: workflow automation, webhook triggers, MCP proxy configuration

Microsoft 365

  • M365 administration: user management, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook
  • Integration of M365 with AI tools, particularly Claude for Work (Team plan) custom connectors via remote MCP
  • Understanding of Entra ID (Azure AD), SSO, and cross-tenant access concepts

Data and Knowledge Management

  • PostgreSQL: basic administration, pgvector for semantic search and embeddings
  • Obsidian: vault structure, markdown conventions, knowledge graph principles
  • REST APIs: building and consuming, OAuth flows, webhook integrations

In the first 90 days, a successful AI Engineer will have:

  • Configured and connected to all Nivens MCP servers and demonstrated the ability to troubleshoot and restart services independently
  • Created or improved at least two SKILL files that measurably improve Claude's output quality for a specific task
  • Completed at least one client-facing technical deliverable (MCP server, automation workflow, or AI application feature) with minimal supervision
  • Contributed meaningfully to the Obsidian vault with accurate session notes and documentation
  • Demonstrated the ability to learn a new tool or protocol (e.g. a new MCP server package) and deploy it within a reasonable timeframe

Essential attributes we're looking for:

  • Proactive: Self-directed learner who stays current with AI developments and contributes new ideas
  • Accountable: Takes full ownership of tasks, including documentation and handover
  • Strong communicator: Clear written communication in Australian English; produces technical documentation, session notes, and client-safe summaries
  • Adaptable: Comfortable working across multiple tools and switching between client environments
  • Transparent: Asks questions early and flags blockers promptly
  • Detail-oriented: Works methodically and documents actions, decisions, and next steps

What you gain beyond the role:

  • Remote + Hybrid Flexibility: Enjoy the best of both worlds—collaborative office days when it counts, balanced with the freedom to work from home.
  • Achieve Work-Life Balance and Flexibility: Work in an environment where you're trusted and empowered to work independently, while still having the support you need to deliver your best. Here, flexibility isn't just a perk—it's how we help you perform at your best, without sacrificing life outside of work.
  • Open Culture: Your voice matters, we encourage proactive communication and fresh ideas.
  • Supportive Team: From your very first day to every career milestone, we've got your back—with long-term growth and projects you can truly thrive in.
  • Learn and Grow: Training, coaching, and international opportunities to level up your skills and career
  • Be part of a B-Corp company that puts people and planet first while creating meaningful impact.

Please note: This role is remote; however, we require candidates to be based locally in the Philippines. This is to support occasional onsite activities such as team events, client meetings, or equipment handover. Additionally, local residency is necessary for compliance with Philippines labor laws and employment regulations.
