Job Description

Lead complex, multi-release digital transformation programmes spanning enterprise portals, workflow automation, systems integration, data migration and cloud platforms. Own integrated planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, multi-vendor coordination and operational transition.

Unite client stakeholders and technology partners around agreed outcomes, with clear accountability for commitments, dependencies and operational readiness. Combine programme-level leadership with hands-on oversight to challenge assumptions, resolve cross-team impediments and drive corrective action.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Integrated Delivery Planning

  • Translate business objectives and contractual commitments into an integrated roadmap, delivery plan and measurable success criteria. Define workstreams, owners, resources, milestones and decision points.
  • Direct delivery across requirements, design, development, integration, infrastructure, migration, testing and business readiness. Manage the critical path and dependencies across all delivery parties.
  • Govern successive releases and overlapping development, testing, stabilisation and support activities. Validate dependencies, protect capacity for concurrent delivery and adjust sequencing where necessary.

Project Governance & Executive Stakeholder Management

  • Establish delivery reviews, customer updates, risk reviews and Project Steering Committee (PSC) submissions, with clear decision rights, escalation routes, action ownership and auditable records.
  • Act as the senior delivery interface between clients, leadership and partners. Resolve conflicting expectations, secure timely decisions and align scope, priorities and commitments.
  • Report programme progress, financial performance, risks and dependencies using evidence. Escalate material deviations with impact assessments, recovery options and recommendations.

Project Financial, Commercial & Contractual Management

  • Own budget monitoring and forecasting, including actual and committed expenditure, supplier costs, contingency and estimated cost to complete.
  • Manage contractual deliverables and milestones. Secure commercial assessment and approval of scope changes, additional services and schedule variations before making commitments.

Multi-Vendor Coordination

  • Integrate delivery across vendors, implementation partners and internal teams. Clarify ownership of deliverables, interfaces, dependencies, handovers and acceptance criteria to prevent unmanaged gaps.
  • Hold teams and vendors accountable for demonstrated outputs, quality and contractual commitments. Challenge unsupported progress claims, resolve cross-party issues and drive recovery actions.

Risk, Delivery Assurance & Recovery Management

  • Maintain consolidated risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies with owners, mitigation actions, deadlines and escalation thresholds. Identify systemic risks spanning multiple workstreams.
  • Challenge forecasts against requirements readiness, capacity, completed work, integration progress, test results and environment availability. Develop recovery plans when commitments are threatened.
  • Coordinate architecture, security, quality and operational assurance. Complete required reviews and remediation before release decisions, referring residual risks to authorised decision-makers.

Team Leadership, Agile Delivery & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and mentor workstream leads. Set expectations, delegate execution and retain accountability for integrated programme outcomes.
  • Apply Agile practices within contractual and governance requirements. Assess progress through sprint and release evidence while enabling Scrum Masters and team leads to manage day-to-day ceremonies.
  • Coordinate capacity planning, onboarding, succession coverage and knowledge transfer. Embed lessons learned to improve delivery predictability, quality and future programme execution.

Qualifications

Experience: At least 5 years leading complex programmes or substantial multi-vendor transformations, with accountability for outcomes, budgets and senior customer relationships.

Programme Delivery: Proven delivery of business-critical portals, workflow automation, systems integration, data migration and phased releases. Experience in regulated or governance-intensive environments is advantageous.

Commercial & Financial Acumen: Strong budgeting, forecasting, supplier management, contractual delivery, change control, acceptance and billing capabilities. Able to manage commercial exposure with Finance and procurement.

Stakeholder Leadership: Able to engage executives, facilitate steering committee decisions, negotiate trade-offs and resolve disagreements across clients, vendors and internal teams.

Methods & Development: Strong programme governance, Agile, risk management and service-transition knowledge. Relevant programme or project management and Agile certifications are advantageous, supported by delivery experience.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Accountable and outcome-driven: Owns integrated programme outcomes, not just an individual team, vendor or reporting process.

Commercially disciplined and customer-focused: Balances customer outcomes with contractual commitments, cost control and sustainable delivery.

Strategic yet hands-on: Engages senior management on trade-offs while working with delivery leads to resolve dependencies and recover progress.

Decisive and transparent: Surfaces issues early, distinguishes evidence from optimism and drives clear recommendations, ownership and follow-through.
