Job Summary:

The Actuarial Head leads and oversees the company's actuarial functions for both life and non-life reinsurance business, ensuring sound pricing, reserving, analytics, and risk management practices. The role is responsible for developing actuarial policies, enhancing processes and controls, and providing technical insights that support strategic business decisions.

The position also drives the continuous improvement of actuarial tools, methodologies, and reporting standards while ensuring the integrity and reliability of actuarial data and outputs. As a people leader, the Actuarial Head manages, mentors, and develops the actuarial team, promotes collaboration across the organization, and supports succession planning and professional growth initiatives.

In addition, the role represents the company in industry engagements, contributes to technical working groups and actuarial committees, and helps strengthen industry knowledge through training, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

PROCESS MANAGEMENT

  • Be a champion of the Actuarial team's functions, and ensure internal customer satisfaction
  • Develop, recommend and implement pricing and reserving policies for both life and non-life reinsurance business
  • Identify process gaps, implement improvements and clearly document deliverables, processes and dependencies
  • Recommend, validate and maintain Actuarial tools and software, ensuring they are appropriate to the team's functions
  • Implement appropriate controls to ascertain integrity, reasonableness and reliability of input, methods, assumptions and output of the team's different processes

ACTUARIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the team in compiling organized and validated reinsurance data that would be used for pricing, reserving and other actuarial tasks
  • Provide and present technical output to management that would be used for business planning and other decision-making activities
  • Provide analytics services to external clients to complement reinsurance service provided by the company

TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Conduct annual planning with the team and prepare the annual and other periodic work plans of subordinates
  • Monitor the progress of work of subordinates and conduct performance reviews periodically and annually
  • Recommend Actuarial budget and ensure that the team functions within the approved amount
  • Motivate members of the team, act as a mentor and foster camaraderie within the unit
  • Ensure that each staff is informed of how they can grow professionally with the company, and actively be involved in their career development plans, with succession planning in mind
  • Address and resolve conflicts that may arise within the team, or between the team and other units of the company

TRAINING

  • Train new hires or less experienced members of the team on reinsurance concepts and on the various functions of the unit
  • Identify training opportunities within the company, or those offered by external parties, then plan and implement a training program to ensure the team's continuous professional growth and awareness of recent developments in the industry
  • Pursue further training, or complete relevant Actuarial designations to strengthen experience and expertise
  • Be involved in the PIRA technical working group or the Actuarial Society's Non-Life Committee and become an effective contributor to the industry's development
  • Conduct trainings within the company when necessary, communicating fundamental concepts that would drive better understanding of model outcome and analysis

Collaborate with consultants and other industry experts to enable knowledge sharing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science.
  • Must have extensive working experience in the insurance industry
  • Must be a fellow of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines
