Accounting Team Leader (AU Tax Background)

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Team Leader to direct our Manila-based accounting operations and serve as the primary operational and technical bridge to our Australian practice leadership.

This senior leadership role requires a professional with deep expertise in Australian accounting and taxation, paired with a proven track record of managing high-performing offshore teams. In this position, you will drive workflow automation, spearhead system implementations (migrating legacy spreadsheets to modern CRM and practice management platforms), conduct senior technical reviews, and enforce rigorous QA standards to ensure complete compliance before files reach Australian partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Offshore Leadership & Development: Supervise, direct, and mentor offshore accountants, bookkeepers, and workflow administrators; deliver continuous coaching, technical training, and structured performance evaluations.
• Technical Quality Assurance: Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of Australian financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts, resolving complex compliance, tax, and bookkeeping queries before escalation.
• Systems Architecture & Automation: Design, document, and roll out standard operating procedures (SOPs), automated workflows, and software integrations (CRM, Practice Management, Xero, HubSpot).
• Capacity & SLA Management: Oversee team resource allocation, track job progress, manage turnaround times, and maintain strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Compliance & Audit Integrity: Lead internal QA audits to guarantee adherence to Australian accounting standards, ATO regulations, and practice benchmarks.
• Stakeholder Bridge: Act as the direct counterpart to Australian practice leaders, providing transparent reporting on team performance, productivity, and delivery metrics.

Job Requirements: Non-Negotiable Core Requirements

• Australian Accounting Expertise:6–8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 4 years directly supporting Australian accounting and tax practices.
• Management & Leadership Track Record:Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory, team lead, or management capacity successfully leading an offshore accounting team and balancing multi-client workloads.
• Workflow & Process Engineering: Demonstrated success in architecting, documenting, and implementing accounting workflows, SOPs, and system migrations.
• Software Ecosystem Mastery:
• Core Accounting: Advanced proficiency in Xero (including Xero Practice Manager / Workpapers), with exposure to MYOB or QuickBooks Online.
• Practice Management & Workflow: Hands-on experience with tools like Karbon, Asana, Monday.com, ClickUp, or HubSpot.
• Document Automation & Workpapers: Working knowledge of Dext, Hubdoc, SuiteFiles, or Google Workspace / Microsoft 365.
• Spreadsheets: Advanced Excel / Google Sheets financial modeling capability.
