Job Description

About the Role

The Accounting Supervisor will oversee daily accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and timeliness of month-end closing activities, and maintain compliance with local tax regulations. This role is hands-on preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting in management reporting, and supervising staff for process efficiency and accuracy. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge, tax compliance experience, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Month-End Closing

  • Prepare and review journal entries for accruals, prepayments, and other adjusting entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations and ensure supporting schedules are accurate and complete.
  • Analyze monthly variances and ensure all income, expense, and balance sheet accounts are properly accounted for.
  • Coordinate with branch accountants and other departments to ensure timely submission of entries.

System and Master Data Management

  • Setup and maintain branch codes and accounting cost centers in the system
  • Ensure branch-level transactions are properly tagged and reported in management reports.

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in preparing monthly management reports, budget-to-actual analysis, and variance commentary.
  • Support management in providing ad-hoc analyses and schedules for decision-making.
  • Assist in preparing the financial statements at year-end.
  • Assist in providing supporting documentation to external and internal auditors.

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual BIR returns (VAT, EWT, Income Tax, etc.).
  • Maintain tax schedules and ensure accuracy of tax reporting and remittances.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants for annual compliance requirements.

Cash Advance and Liquidation

  • Review, monitor, and process liquidation of employee and operational cash advances.
  • Ensure all liquidations are complete, valid, and supported by proper documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or any related business course.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 25 years of relevant experience in general accounting, preferably in a retail environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS).
  • Working knowledge in SAP is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Experience in BIR tax filings (VAT, EWT, 1601E, 2550M/Q, 1702, etc.).
