Job Title: Accounting Manager (Construction)
This role is based in Cebu office. We offer relocation package and family private health insurance. This is not a remote role.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the financial operations of a construction business, ensuring accurate job costing, financial reporting, and compliance with New Zealand regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in supporting project performance, cash flow management, and commercial decision-making across multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting function
- Oversee and review project/job costing, ensuring accurate allocation of labour, materials, and overheads
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, revenue recognition, and project margin analysis
- Ensure compliance with NZ accounting standards and tax regulations (including GST)
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and progress claim invoicing
- Monitor cash flow, including forecasting project-based inflows and outflows
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain and improve financial controls, systems, and processes
- Use Excel and Xero for accounting, reporting, and system optimisation
- Support budgeting and forecasting at both company and project level
- Provide financial insights to project managers and senior leadership
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
- Ensure accurate payroll processing, including contractor and subcontractor payments
- Track and report on retention balances and contract variations
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- ACCA or CPA or equivalent qualification preferred
- 5+ years accounting experience, ideally within international construction or project-based environments
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and revenue recognition in construction preferred but not essential.
- Experience using Xero
- Knowledge of NZ tax requirements, including GST and contractor payments
- High attention to detail and strong analytical capability
- Strong communication skills, particularly with non-financial stakeholders (e.g., project managers)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Prior experience managing a small team.
