Job Description

Why This Role Matters

At Klean Kanteen, we're more than a bottle company—we're an independently-owned, mission-driven crew working to eliminate single-use waste and inspire people to bring their own.

As our Accounting Manager, you'll be the hands-on financial engine that keeps Klean running. Reporting directly to the CFO at Think Better Group, you're the doer—the person who owns the books, manages banking relationships, builds the annual budget, and ensures every number is right. Your accuracy and initiative directly enable our leadership team to make smart, mission-aligned decisions.

What You'll Do

Champion Our Mission & Values

  • Advocacy: Act as a mission ambassador in every interaction with customers, partners, and staff.
  • Culture: Embody our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Fun.
  • Transparency: Foster open communication with the team, retail partners, and rep groups.
  • Excellence: Continuously improve departmental processes and measure progress against performance targets.

Lead & Inspire Your Team

  • Mentorship: Hire, coach, and set clear accountability measures for all direct reports.
  • Management: Conduct regular 1:1s, set goals, and manage the semi-annual performance and salary review cycle.
  • Efficiency: Encourage growth and best practices across all accounting functions.

Accounting & Finance

  • Policies: Develop and maintain accounting procedures to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • General Ledger: Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Analysis: Perform routine GL departmental expense reviews and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Internal Controls: Perform bank reconciliations and internal audits; provide IT support for the organization as needed.

Banking Relationships

  • Point of Contact: Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison with banking partners.
  • Reporting: Prepare weekly Borrowing Base Certificates (BBCs) and monthly bank reporting packages.
  • Compliance: Track covenant compliance and ensure timely submission of all required documentation.

Annual Budget

  • Coordination: Lead the annual budget process, collaborating with department leaders to align on targets.
  • Modeling: Maintain the budget model throughout the year and provide variance analysis against actuals.
  • Reporting: Present budget updates and financial performance summaries to the CFO and leadership.

Tax Reporting & Compliance

  • Filings: Coordinate with outside firms for annual tax filings and sales tax vendors for jurisdictional compliance.
  • Documentation: Prepare all supporting schedules and documentation required for tax preparation.
  • Oversight: Monitor regulatory requirements and escalate issues to the CFO as needed.

Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable

  • Oversight: Monitor and evaluate all AR and AP functions.
  • Analysis: Review AR aging analysis weekly with staff to ensure healthy cash flow.

Who You Are

  • Hands-On Operator: You don't just oversee—you do. You are comfortable being the person who gets things done.
  • Financially Sharp: Deep GAAP knowledge and the ability to translate numbers into actionable insights.
  • Detail-Oriented: You catch what others miss and take pride in clean books.
  • Relationship Builder: Confident and professional when working with bankers and external partners.
  • Mission-Aligned: You care about sustainability and want your work to support a company doing good.
