Responsibilities
Client Portfolio Management
- Own a portfolio of US Pacific Coast, Australia and New Zealand clients across bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting engagements.
- Serve as the primary point of accountability for service quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
- Review and approve financial outputs, including management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Proactively identify risks, issues, or delays and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with clients to understand their business context and ensure financial information supports decision-making.
Service Delivery & SLA Compliance
- Ensure all client deliverables meet agreed SLAs, including:
- Monthly and year-end reporting timelines
- Accuracy and completeness standards
- Client communication and response-time commitments
- Monitor workload distribution and capacity planning across the team.
- Track and manage delivery metrics, escalations, and recurring issues.
- Drive continuous improvement in service delivery processes and controls.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of accountants and senior accountants supporting ANZ or US clients.
- Assign work, set priorities, and provide technical guidance and review.
- Conduct regular performance check-ins, feedback, and formal reviews.
- Identify training needs and support professional development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Quality Control & Technical Oversight
- Ensure compliance with relevant Australian and New Zealand accounting standards, tax requirements, and best practices (with support from subject-matter experts where required), including:
- Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and New Zealand equivalents
- GST and indirect tax reporting requirements
- Payroll and superannuation / KiwiSaver reporting (where in scope)
- Statutory lodgements and filing timelines
- Oversee preparation and review of compliance-related outputs prior to submission or handover to external advisors.
- Maintain strong internal review processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Act as an escalation point for complex accounting, reporting, or client issues.
- Support audit and year-end processes, including coordination with external advisors.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, R&D, and Process teams to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with Sales and Onboarding teams to ensure smooth client transitions.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs, templates, and internal controls.
- Provide feedback on recurring client needs to support service innovation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification preferred (CPA, CA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 58 years of accounting experience, including:
- Managing accounting and financial reporting engagements
- Exposure to Australian and/or New Zealand clients
- Prior experience leading or supervising accounting teams
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
- Experience working in a professional services, outsourcing, or shared-services environment is highly desirable.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting platforms (e.g., Xero; experience with ANZ clients is a strong advantage).
- Excellent understanding of management reporting and balance sheet integrity.
- Proven ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and review skills.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage stakeholders across different time zones and cultures.
