Our client is seeking a Junior Controller to join their growing team. The ideal candidate thrives in an intense and fast-paced environment while maintaining focus and attention to detail. The Role

The Accounting Lead is responsible for financial planning and analysis, accounting operations, and compliance functions. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis, while serving as a strategic business partner to support operational and growth decisions.

The position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, managing end-to-end accounting processes (GL, AP, AR, and payroll), and maintaining strong internal controls. Additionally, the role leads audit and tax compliance activities, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements while driving financial efficiency and integrity across the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Financial Planning, Analysis, and Strategy
  • Lead the Financial Planning & Analysis function, including the development of the annual budget process across all departments.
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis of actual results versus budget/forecast and provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Manage daily cash flow and liquidity, optimizing working capital and overseeing banking relationships.
  • Serve as a financial business partner to department heads (Operations, Sales, etc.) to drive cost efficiencies and evaluate new business initiatives.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial forecasts for billing to Customers and Project Managers.
  • Accounting and Reporting Management
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all financial statements are prepared accurately and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manage and maintain the integrity of the General Ledger (GL), including preparing and reviewing complex journal entries and reconciling all balance sheet accounts.
  • Direct and manage the entire Accounts Payable (A/P) process, ensuring proper PO matching, approvals, and disbursement of funds via checks, bank wires, and bill payments.
  • Oversee and execute all Accounts Receivable (A/R) functions, including customer invoicing, collections, cash application, and performing A/R audits and reconciliations.
  • Directly manage and execute employee payroll processing, ensuring strict compliance with all federal and state tax regulations and labor laws.
  • Review and reconcile employee credit card purchases for accuracy and compliance with internal company policies.
  • Compliance, Control, and Administration
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Coordinate and lead the financial audit process with external auditors and tax preparers.
  • Own and execute all tax compliance matters, including the preparation and submission of Monthly Sales, Use, and Excise Tax Reporting for multiple states.
  • Develop and update company finance and accounting policies and procedures documentation.
  • Maintain all vendor information (W-9s, ACH), contracts, and necessary business licenses.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal government financial reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, with at least two years in a management or senior-level role.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and advanced bookkeeping.
  • Demonstrated expertise with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in project accounting (e.g., in the construction or logistics industries).
  • Working knowledge of financial management tools such as Smartsheet and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff.
