Job Title: Accountant
Location: Remote, based in the Philippines - Must have home office set up with reliable computer and internet connection.
Hours: Must be able to workMonday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Term: One year from the start date, with the opportunity for annual renewal based on organizational needs and performance.
The Opportunity:
The Accountant will serve as a backup resource for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and other general accounting tasks for all operating companies of triOS Education Group.
Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the organization's accounting operations by managing accounts payable, performing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
What you'll be doing:
Financial Reporting & Reconciliations
- Prepare timely and accurate reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts, identifying, investigating, and resolving outstanding reconciling items.
- Develop and present action plans to the Controller for aging reconciling items and unresolved issues.
- Reconcile all corporate credit card accounts for both triOS College and Eastern College, ensuring transactions are complete, accurate, and appropriately recorded.
- Reconcile vendor statements to the Accounts Payable subledger and investigate discrepancies.
- Reconcile purchase orders to supplier invoices and ensure appropriate approvals and supporting documentation are in place.
- Calculate monthly commissions, communicate commission calculations to reps and provide commission calculations to payroll department as per Rippling deadlines.
Accounts Payable
- Review, code, and process supplier invoices accurately and in accordance with company policies.
- Schedule and process electronic and cheque payments to vendors on a timely basis.
- Contact vendors to process credit card payments and accurately record transactions within the accounting system.
- Maintain payment tracking spreadsheets and supporting documentation.
- Respond promptly and professionally to vendor inquiries and resolve payment-related issues.
- Administer the corporate credit card program, including card issuance, reconciliation, monitoring, and policy compliance.
Expense Management & Student Transactions
- Review, reconcile, and process employee expense reimbursements in accordance with corporate policies.
- Process student refunds through the ERP system and online banking platform while ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
- Download, reconcile, and post WSIB receipts.
- Review and post miscellaneous receipts to the general ledger.
General Accounting
- Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing and posting journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain schedules and reconciliations for various general ledger accounts.
- Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for the annual financial audit.
- Provide cross-functional support within the Finance team and serve as backup for team members during vacations or peak workload periods.
- Collaborate with the Director, Business Systems on system enhancements, process improvements, testing, and special projects.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned to support the Finance department and the overall objectives of the College.
Other duties as assigned, and which are in the best interests of the College.
What you bring to the position:
- Must have CPA designation.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a similar capacity.
- Strong and solid knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Skills and experience with Balance Sheet accounts reconciliations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Excellent business communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of Great Plains software is an asset.
