Job Description
The Accountant 2 is responsible for supporting client accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and assisting with month-end and year-end close activities. The role works closely with CPAs and accounting teams to ensure client books are complete, accurate, and prepared for reporting and tax requirements.
Job Description
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts for assigned clients.
• Review, categorize, and record financial transactions according to proper accounting treatment.
• Perform bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review journal entries including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, payroll, and adjusting entries.
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable balances for accuracy.
• Investigate unusual transactions, discrepancies, duplicate transactions, and unreconciled balances.
• Maintain supporting documentation for financial transactions and reconciliations.
• Perform monthly and year-end closing procedures.
• Review prior-year balances and ensure proper roll-forward into the current accounting period.
• Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules for closing activities.
• Identify accounting issues and escalate concerns requiring additional review.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Assist in preparing Balance Sheets, Profit & Loss Statements, and management reports.
• Review financial statements for accuracy and identify significant variances.
• Support cash-flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting activities.
• Ensure financial reports are supported by accurate reconciled accounts.
• Prepare accounting records and workpapers needed for business and individual tax preparation.
• Review client books for tax readiness before preparation begins.
• Assist with preparation of tax returns including Forms 1040, 1120S, 1065, and related filings.
• Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules.
• Identify potential tax issues and provide supporting information for CPA review.
• Review payroll reports and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
• Assist with payroll tax, sales tax, and compliance-related matters.
• Verify proper recording of wages, payroll taxes, benefits, and owner compensation.
• Assist with preparation of year-end reporting requirements such as Form 1099.
• Communicate professionally with clients to obtain missing information and resolve accounting questions.
• Explain accounting issues clearly to clients and stakeholders.
• Follow up on outstanding documentation and unresolved accounting items.
• Maintain awareness of client deadlines and proactively communicate potential delays or issues.
• Build understanding of assigned clients businesses and accounting processes.
Required Qualifications
• Has working knowledge in US accounting principles and double-entry accounting.
• Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
• Proven ability to prepare and understand Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss Statements.
• Proven ability to manage multiple clients, assignments, and deadlines.
• Proven ability to be comfortable spending much of the day on Zoom the internal team.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Clear and coherent both written and verbal communication skills in English.
Screening Criteria
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent accounting experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of bookkeeping, public accounting, tax, or general accounting experience.
• Experience supporting multiple U.S. clients in a CPA firm, bookkeeping firm, or outsourced accounting environment.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Must have stable employment history.
