In Southeast Asia, a major economic zone with a population nearing 700 million, Japanese companies have recently shown an increasing eagerness to invest in order to capitalize on its growth. Despite its cohesion as a vast economic region, Southeast Asia is characterized by the diversity of its countries, each possessing unique attributes. This complexity directly contributes to the intricate business challenges faced by Japanese firms entering the market. Due to the region's booming market and unique challenges, there is a rising demand for consulting services to support clients mid-to-long-term strategies, and we are seeking individuals to help lead our strategy consulting business in Southeast Asia.

The life sciences and healthcare industries in this region are characterized by a high concentration of clients with regional headquarters in Singapore.

Singapore's strategic location enables us to support clients businesses across the vast APAC region. The life sciences and healthcare industries tend to grow in proportion to the aging population in a given country or region. However, Southeast Asia, with a relatively large young population and slower aging process (with some exceptions), is poised for significant growth as aging advances in the coming years. As a result, we are receiving more requests from clients seeking comprehensive support from strategy formulation to delivery, with a long-term view of the market in the coming years and even decades. This increasing demand has led us to actively recruit for this position.

One distinguishing feature of the Southeast Asian market is its diverse healthcare infrastructure. In countries like Indonesia, where hospitals are often far from residential areas, over-the-counter medicines may be necessary instead of prescribed medications, making last-mile consumer reach especially critical. This requires consulting elements focused on consumer marketing. Additionally, regulations such as pharmaceutical laws vary by country, underscoring the need for localized strategies to navigate this region's unique complexity.

Furthermore, the life sciences industry is marked by high uncertainty in research and development and a continuous demand for innovation. New products are often truly new to the world, necessitating custom strategies and business models rather than standard operations. This unique requirement further drives consulting demand.

Requirements:

Deep industry knowledge of Life Science or Healthcare
Practical experience at a consulting firm, along with expertise in one of the following areas:

- - Strategy
  - Core Business Operations
  - Marketing / Digital Transformation (DX)

Proven track record of contributing to securing projects through proposal activities
Experience in leading projects
Native level Japanese and business level English or native level English and business level Japanese
In-depth consulting experience in a specific industry (technology, consumer, manufacturing, etc.)
Southeast Asia related consulting experience

人口7億人に迫る一大経済圏である東南アジアにおいて、その成長を捉えるべく、近年日本企業の投資意欲が益々高まっています。

東南アジアは巨大な経済圏であるという緊密な繋がりがありながら、一つ一つの国が全く異なる性質を持つという多様性に富み、こうした複雑さはとりもなおさず東南アジアに進出する日本企業のビジネス課題の複雑さ、困難さにつながっています。

ライフサイエンス・ヘルスケア産業は、リージョナルHQをシンガポールに置くクライアントが多いのが特徴です。

当部門の特徴として、クライアントのAPAC領域全体の戦略をシンガポールで手伝うことが出来るという点があげられ、地理的にも広大な範囲でクライアントのビジネスを支えることができます。

また、ライフサイエンス・ヘルスケア産業はその国・地域の高齢化の進み具合に比例して伸びる傾向にありますが、東南アジアは相対的に (一部の例外を除いて) 若年層も多く高齢化しきっていない状況です。今後高齢化が進むに伴い市場規模としても大きくなることが予想される地域で、クライアントの数年先・数十年先を見据えた戦略のために戦略策定からデリバリまでを幅広く、というご依頼が増えてきており、本ポジションを積極的に採用するに至りました。

また、東南アジアという地域に特徴的な点として、医療インフラの違いがあげられます。例えば、インドネシアなど、病院が家の近くにないことが多い地域の場合、処方薬ではなく市販薬で対処する必要があるケースが起こります。一般家庭向けのラストワンマイルのリーチの重要性がとても高く、コンシューマーマーケティングとしてのコンサルティングの要素も求められます。ほかにも、薬事法をはじめとする法律や規制が国によって異なるなど、多様性とともにある地域ならではの根強いニーズがあります。

加えて、研究開発の不確実性が高く、常にイノベーションが求められるこの産業では、新しいプロダクト=「世の中にとって新しいもの」というケースが多いです。それゆえに、型にはまったオペレーションを持ち出すのではなく、毎回、そのプロダクトに合った戦略やビジネスモデルを考える必要があるという点もコンサルティングニーズが高い理由となっています。
