Philippines’ Hiring Landscape in August 2024: Key Takeaways from the foundit Insights Tracker 

Key Highlights of the Month 

The Philippines’ foundit Insights Tracker recorded a 20% annual increase in hiring activity from August 2023 to August 2024, with the index rising from 118 to 142. However, month-over-month, there was a 5% decline, dropping from 149 in July 2024. While this reflects a temporary slowdown, hiring activity has shown consistent growth over the past three months, indicating a steady recovery. 

Hiring Trends – Industry 

10 out of the 12 monitored industries saw annual growth in August 2024. 

  • In Demand: 
  • Retail (+45%), boosted by luxury goods, and BPO/ITES (+42%) also experienced significant growth. 
  • Facing Challenges: 
  • IT, Telecom/ISP (-18%) and FMCG (-7%) faced declines in hiring. 

Hiring Trends – Functional Area 

9 out of 10 functions tracked saw annual growth in August 2024. 

  • In Demand: 
  • Purchase/Logistics/Supply Chain (+84%) saw the largest increase in demand. 
  • HR & Admin (+67%) and Marketing & Communications (+58%) also saw substantial growth. 
  • Facing Challenges: 
  • Software, Hardware, Telecom (-17%) continued to decline year-on-year, but saw slight recovery with a 4% monthly growth.
