The SMSF Senior Accountant will be responsible for a range of tasks to help their self-managed superannuation team deliver timely service to internal and external stakeholders. The core focus is to preparation of income tax returns, financial statements and Activity Statements (BAS/IAS) for superannuation funds (SMSF).
About The Role- SMSF Compliance & Accounting
- Prepare SMSF financial statements, income tax returns, and electronic workpapers using BGL360
- Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
- Prepare and lodge Transfer Balance Account Reports (TBARs) in accordance with ATO requirements
- Monitor and manage SMSF lodgement deadlines
- Liaise with auditors and Australian team members to resolve audit issues efficiently
- Ensure audit documentation is complete, technically sound, and review-ready
- Client & Workflow Management
- Liaise with Australian team members regarding technical queries, review notes, and workflow matters
- Prepare draft and final client correspondence for SMSF clients
- Monitor job costs against budgeted and prior-year fees
- Complete system setup tasks for new SMSF clients
- Technical Support & Advisory
- Provide SMSF taxation and compliance support in accordance with Australian legislation
- Identify technical issues and escalate complex matters where required
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor, review, and support junior and intermediate accountants
- Act as a key offshore contact for Australian team members
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
What We Are Looking For
The role will suit an experienced accountant who is looking for the next step in their Australian accounting professional career. Additionally, the successful candidate will have:
- 3+ years experience in business services and Australian Tax Accounting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Management Accounting, 4 year course that allows enrolment for CPALE or CMA exam (not a pre-requisite to have sat or passed exams)
- Strong experience in BGL360.
- Working knowledge of Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills for communicating with our Australian professional staff and clients
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective task and time management skills, awareness of job budgets and productivity targets
- Strong commitment to quality service and client relationships
- Self-starter with accountability for both personal and professional development
