Job Description

The role requires the successful candidate to perform tasks as a contract negotiator or legal counsel, depending on his/her qualification, supporting the Refinitiv Data & Analytics business in ASEAN. The successful candidate will be part of a wider network of Refinitiv lawyers and compliance professionals in Asia and globally and will be encouraged to collaborate with lawyers and compliance professionals across the company.

The successful candidate will be based in Manila, Philippines assisting Senior Legal Counsel, ASEAN, in connection with the Refinitiv businesses with primary focus on matters arising from the region. The role will also be coordinating with other jurisdictions and assisting with ad hoc work across the region and globally.

Duties include contract drafting, review, and negotiation, corporate counselling, risk management and legal compliance.

  • Review, draft, revise and negotiate a wide range of agreements with customers, vendors, resellers and other third parties, including large master agreements, data licenses, software and intellectual property licenses, consulting/services agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other standard and non-standard agreements related to sales of the company's products and/or services working within agreed contracting policies
  • Ensure appropriate level of legal involvement in contract negotiations and compliance with policies established by the legal department
  • Interface with appropriate company personnel to understand the business and financial issues involved in the negotiation and administration of contracts
  • Research and respond to general legal inquiries from in-house clients that relate to commercial law and provide guidance and advice to internal clients on contract issues help internal clients to recognize the impact of customized deals
  • Identify ways to enhance and support the enhancement of internal processes and procedures to ensure compliance with contract terms and work with other members of the legal team and back-office to ensure swift and efficient contracts execution process
  • Where necessary, coordinating localisation and translation of standard contracts and review of outsourced translations of legal documents
  • Undertake ad hoc research duties
  • Assist to monitor legal developments within the relevant jurisdictions
  • Liaise with external law firms on various matters independently as required
  • Assist with preparation of and participating in Legal Function's staff training sessions
  • Undertakeany other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager/director on a permanent or temporary basis.

Key relationships:

The role will require you to provide legal support to all levels of personnel but in particular to the sales, commercial policy and partnership (including content acquisition) teams in Asia, particularly ASEAN region.

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum of Diploma in Legal Studies from a recognised tertiary institution, or LLB/JD from a reputable law school, or a common law jurisdiction law degree.
  • At least 6 years experience as a paralegal or at least 3-4 years post-qualification experience as a counsel in multinational companies or reputable law firm/s.
  • Excellentverbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have common sense and be practical and mature in approach.
  • Hardworking, resourceful, organised, methodical and with a focus on accuracy in work. Independent and has the ability to multitask and prioritise multiple matters and work in a fast-paced environment, whilst also working well as a team member.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with both internal and external clients.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, identify and resolve legal issues and possess knowledge of product, services and organisational structure.

Desired Skills:

  • Must have good command of both written and spoken English. Knowledge of other Asian languages will be desirable.
  • Familiarity with technology and information products including telecommunications transactions a plus but not required.
  • M&A and corporate experience desirable.
