Database Administrator

We are in search for aDatabase Administratorto join the team fulltime. The role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

What you will do:

• Develop and maintain database documentation, including schema, data dictionary, and standard operating procedures
• Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
• Monitor database performance using monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and optimize database performance for optimal user experience
• Implement database automation using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention
• Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels
• Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity
• Develop, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure high availability and data protection
• Manage database server patching & security update process
• Plan and coordinate upgrades and data migrations between systems
• Create, or support creation of required reports in response to business user needs
• Collaborate with developers in database design to support custom applications, including data modeling, schema design, and query optimization
• Implement and maintain database security, access control, and data privacy policies to comply with industry regulations and company standards

Knowledge and Experience:

• Strong understanding of database architectures, principles, and practices, with experience in designing, building, and maintaining complex database environments
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure SQL Server
• Experience with Elastic search is preferred
• Experience with SQL reporting services and Power BI
• Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash, with experience in developing automation scripts and tools to improve database operations
• Knowledge of data sharing, database replication, and distributed database architectures
• Familiarity with database performance monitoring and tuning tools, such as Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Quest Fog light or SolarWinds database performance Analyzer
• Familiarity with the software development life cycle, project management methodologies, and agile development processes
• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle

Formal Education and Training:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• At least 5 years of experience in database administration, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL databases
• Certifications in SQL Server administration, Azure Fundamentals, and Azure Database Administrator Associate are highly desirable

• Good written and oral communication skills
• Strong technical documentation skills
• Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required
• Ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management
• Process and detail-oriented with great documentation skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time

Work schedule: Monday to Friday 4 pm to 1 am
