The main responsibilities of a LAW CLERK - TAX DISPUTES include:

Drafting. Prepare first drafts of notices of objection, taxpayer relief applications, voluntary disclosure applications, CRA correspondence and internal memos, working from lawyer instructions.
Document mastery. Build and maintain chronologies, document books and exhibit sets; log and organize client records; reconcile client documents against CRA statements of account.
Numbers. Prepare and check the Excel schedules behind net worth assessments, penalty and interest calculations, and settlement scenarios. Comfort with spreadsheets is core to this role, not optional.
Deadlines. Track statutory timelines and maintain the bring-forward system so nothing is ever missed.
CRA process. Prepare and pursue access-to-information (ATIP) requests, and assemble complete, well-organized submissions to CRA standards.
Court support. Assemble Tax Court of Canada filings and books of documents to court standards, under lawyer direction.
File hygiene. Keep matters current in Clio: documents filed, tasks updated, time recorded.

To apply, you must be an expert on the following requirements:

Five or more years as a law clerk, paralegal or legal specialist supporting litigation, tax or regulatory work. Offshore support of Canadian, US, UK or Australian firms is strongly preferred.
A degree in Legal Management, Political Science or a related field; a Juris Doctor or Philippine Bar membership is an asset.
Exceptional written English - your drafts go to lawyers, the CRA and, ultimately, courts.
Strong Excel: reconciliations, multi-year schedules, and totals that tie.
Ferocious deadline discipline. In tax disputes, a missed date can extinguish a client's rights.
The kind of attention to detail that notices when a number in a schedule does not match its source document.
